Locals from the State of Sikkim in India have started a letter campaign in support of the Gorkhaland movement in a bid to pressurise the Indian central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the demand of separate Gorkhaland state.

The letters addresses Indian PM Modi demanding the formation of separate Gorkhaland state.
People from Sikkim have been expressing solidarity in the current Gorkhaland movement saying that the demand of separate state by the people of Darjeeling hills is but a constitutional demand.
Sikkim is the neighbouring state of West Bengal and shares border with Darjeeling.
The initiator of the letter campaign, journalist Prabin Khaling said that the letters are being sent to the Indian Prime Minister to create pressure on the central government to address the demand for Gorkhaland.

“We have already sent about 2,000 letters till now and we will expand this campaign all over India,” said Khaling expressing belief that 15 million Nepali speaking Indian citizens will take part in the campaign.

“We are hopeful that letters from 15 million citizens of the country will have a positive effect on the central government regarding the demand for Gorkhaland state,” added Khaling.
