Anfa undecided over Three Star compensation

The All Nepal Football Association (Anfa) executive committee meeting on Wednesday failed to come to a conclusion over the compensation amount top tier Three Star Club were supposed to receive from the football governing body.

Anfa had earlier decided to pay Rs 15 million as compensation to Three Star Club  for preventing them from competing in the AFC Cup playoffs despite earning qualification. However, Wednesday’s meeting ended inconclusively regarding all the issues that were discussed and was postponed for Thursday.

According to an executive committee member of the football governing body, under the condition of anonymity, the meeting saw heated discussions on compensation issue of Three Star and failed to take any decision. “The decision will be made on Thursday,” said Anfa spokesperson and chief executive Indraman Tuladhar. “Serious issues were on discussions, thus the meeting remained indecisive.”

Tuladhar said that compensation to Three Star, running the stalled ‘A’ Division League, statute amendment, and the date for next executive committee election were among the major agendas of the meeting. “Everyone in the meeting had similar voice that Three Star should be given compensation. But some voiced that responsible person for exclusion of Three Star need to be punished so that such incidents are not repeated in future,” said Tuladhar.

Three Star were unfortunately deprived of their rights to take part in the playoff round of the AFC Cup in January-February this year, thanks to the utter negligence of the football governing body. Despite repeated correspondence from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to register the team for the event, Anfa failed to do so even after they were granted a deadline extension in November last year. AFC only corresponds to its member association and not the club concerned in such cases.

Three Star had earned their way to the playoff after finishing top of their group in the Qualifiers in Mongolia last year. Ever since, the club has been boycotting all football activities in protest.
