Two killed, three missing after flood enters settlement in Ramechhap

Two persons were killed and three are reported missing after a flood swept through a settlement located at the border of Khimti and Pharpu villages of Ramechap district on Saturday.
According to Kumod Dhungel, DSP at District Police Office, Ramechap, the mortal remains of 75-year-old Bal Kumari Khatri, of Likhu Rural Municipality-7, and a body of an unidentified person, were recovered in the flooded area. Six other villagers have been injured and are waiting to be moved to safety.
The flood has also swept away a bridge over the Chatibane river along the Khimti – Pharpu route. Two houses near the bridge were also swept away. The incessant downpour from Saturday morning swelled the river, causing the flood.

The flood has also entered a marketplace from the northern section of Khahare bridge of Khimti Bazaar, locals say.
The authorities had tried to rescue the stranded villagers on the same night but could not reach the site due to obstructions along the road. The police arrived in the morning and are searching for the villagers, DSP Dhungel shared further.
Chief District Officer (CDO), Surya Bahadur Khatri, said all three security bodies have been mobilized for rescue operation. Eight years ago, flashfloods had killed eight villagers in Khimti.
