After Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on July 16 issued a directive to make all the roads of Kathmandu pothole-free within 15 days, the Capital’s road authority has claimed its workers are on the job and they have already fixed the surface of 32 road sections.
According to the progress report of the Kathmandu Division Road Offices, Tripureshwor-Sundhara, Jamal Chowk, Tinkune-Airport-Gaushala, Machhapokhari-Balaju Chowk, and Maharajgunj-Machhapokhari-Bypass are some of the road sections that have been repaired and works were underway in other parts of the city, including Kalopul, Golfutar and Chapali.
Besides fixing the potholes, the report mentions that 68 per cent of pipeline leakage was also completed in last two days. Many roads had a problem of leakage from water and sewer pipelines.
The leakage had to be contained first to fix the potholes. The road between the Department of Mines and Geology and the Narayan Gopal Chowk had more than 500 potholes. Road workers are still repairing the surface.
Drain maintenance, clearance of catch pit and discharge of water from waterlogged area are being carried out by roads supervisor and length workers lead by engineers, the report said.
The Kathmandu Valley Road Extension Programme is also involved in road improvement works at Chabahil-Jorpati, Saraswati Marg and Tripureshwor-Nagdnga Roa
